Crosby and Crosby Insurance
Firearms insurance is an important part of gun ownership now. Years ago, perhaps it didn’t make sense: the firearm was an extension of the owner; the use of it was more limited to specific purposes and it was generally considered a coverable occurrence on a homeowner’s insurance policy to pay for a stolen gun, or other damage to the firearm.
Times have changed: with the economy performing as poorly as it has been combined with an administration unable to make quick and sweeping changes to the economic landscape, it has become a concern for law abiding citizens that has led to enhanced security surrounding their firearms. Thefts of firearms are rising and even very well executed security plans for firearms cannot ensure complete success in the event of theft.
Most homeowner’s insurance policies are lacking with regards to firearms, whether for political, practical or other reasons, and some insurers have even removed firearms from coverage in ALL cases.
As guns have become a more mainstream idea, collectible gun sales have increased; more gun owners have emerged and more guns are being bought per gun owner than ever before.
The concern on the firearms insurance front is that there are only a handful of insurers that can provide excellent benefits for a fair price to gun owners who have a need for a real gun insurance policy. Crosby and Crosby Insurance is among those few insurers that can provide such a valuable service to this segment of the market.
We are launching a segment on the website called Firearms Insurance: The prettiest Guns which will highlight some of the best guns in history, and will touch briefly on values and ideas for coverage or why you would or would not want to consider coverage for the firearms listed. Crosby and Crosby Insurance
As far as insurers go, Crosby and Crosby Insurance is among the most well placed, and best built firearms specific companies (companies that also cater to firearms on their own policy – Crosby and Crosby Insurance is not solely an insurer of firearms) in the industry.
Crosby and Crosby Insurance is a multi-faceted insurance agency based out of Bakersfield, Ca since 1963 that uses specialized products designed with their help and offered through highly rated larger carrier firms, to insure items like Firearms.
The Crosby and Crosby Insurance policy for sportsmen and firearms is one that can be custom built to exceed the standard homeowner’s policy which usually covers firearms related items to a maximum of $2500.
From a theft loss perspective, firearms might only be covered to $1500-$2500 depending on the specific policy limitations. There are typically two types of coverage that can be added to improve coverage for firearms. Blanket coverage would total all of your collection and assign an appropriate value to the firearms to cover under the policy. In general the coverage limits for Crosby and Crosby Insurance policies in this style is $10,000 per firearm: much more than the standard policy limits of typical policies.
Scheduled insurance coverage will asses specific details about specific guns including the serial number and the specific value; then will allow a specific policy to be written for more valuable guns.
Now, one can find these types of coverage through some insurance carriers, they are not unique to Crosby & Crosby, but the cost of insurance from some companies far exceeds the pricing from C&C of as low as $12 per $1000 in coverage.
Furthermore it is important to note that when scheduling and blanketing is used on a policy, it effectively opens the coverage to an “all risk” plan and then is not subjected to the deductible associated with the policy.
Crosby and Crosby Insurance uses specialized homeowner’s policies with extra coverage amendments and covering exclusions with additional products. Some of their insured firearms exceed $15k, which is well within the realm of most firearms owners, including those collecting rare and expensive guns.
Crosby and Crosby Insurance agency uses some of the bigger insurers like Kemper and Travellers, to cover firearms at higher levels than standard limitations. It’s important to note that this discussion is far from over, this initial introduction to Crosby and Crosby insurance and Firearm insurance in general, our future articles in the series Firearms Insurance: The prettiest Guns will cover not only Crosby and Crosby Insurance, but many others to help you navigate your choices, while presenting some very good looking “Gun Porn”.
