Mexico’s take on U.S. Gun trafficking

Gun Trafficking? From the NRA?

Mexican officials have come out recently saying that the NRA, NOT the BATF is responsible for trafficking guns into Mexico, and THEY ARE SICK OF IT!

What?

La Reforma printed comments by Andres Oppenheimer where he called for widespread support to remove the NRA as a “Cartel”; saying: “redefine the NRA as a Cartel, not a lobbying group.”  He spoke about how the year after the lifting of the 2004 assault weapon ban corresponded with the rise in Mexican Gun Violence. He forgot to mention that the same time period corresponded with a decision by the Mexican Government to “crack down” on the Mexican cartels, which more adequately explains the rise in gun crime.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon also took on Gun trafficking in a meeting with Barack Obama recently, saying: “The very future of American Society is threatened if the United States doesn’t crack down on illegal guns coming into Mexico.” Obama, as always apologized and said: “When you have innocent families and women and children being gunned down on the streets…it’s everyone’s problem.” Calderon went on to say that the bloody violence from Mexico was on the verge of spilling into the Untied States, and he too, blamed the NRA.  Eric Holder was on hand to look away and applaud the convictions of Calderon, avoiding personal responsibility for the Fast and Furious debacle.

Mr. Calderon made it clear that Gun Control was an important agenda for him and that it should be for President Obama.  He also hinted that he understood that it would not be talked about or effected without an Obama reelection, and that he knew it would take time to get past the November elections before he expected action from Obama.

His aide, Mayolo Lopez was more open about the talking points in his recent interview in El Norte, another Mexican publication.

Interesting.

In La Jornada Miguel Angel Rivera made it clear he was no fan of gun rights and despised the NRA, but was also critical of Obama, perhaps hinting that he ought to do something before he is either replaced, or has recovered from a rough election year.  He said: “Nice Speech, but I am not convinced Obama will do ANYTHING prior to the end of this election”. That kind of fear from traditional leftists about Barack Obama’s job security is not a single instance.  Hamid Karzai just this week, also made a backhanded effort to discredit Obama’s position and ask for proof that the United States would continue to support their cause. He asked for a contract of sorts to ensure that the United States would help fund the military building in Afghanistan.  He said: “We will take less, just put the amount in writing, so we know it will be delivered.”

Interesting.

An El Universal Editorial called for an all out war on corruption and guns.  They said: “Transnational Organized crime can only be effectively eliminated if an equal force existed from all countries which have it residing within its borders.” He was talking about gun control laws and crack downs on government agency corruption which has allowed guns to come into Mexico via Border Patrol and Customs agent help and direction.

Absent in all of this is the BATF, the White House, Eric Holder, and the facts.

Gun Trafficking is the least of your worries with the Baja Wars running rampant.

Guns don’t kill people…In Mexico, Drug Cartels kill people. Gun Trafficking IS a problem.  But Gun Trafficking is a problem spurred on by flawed Federal agency decisions, NOT the NRA.  The NRA, if anything prevents violence from jumping the border too effectively, by helping law abiding U.S. citizens retain gun ownership rights so they can do their part to protect against the gun trafficking into Mexico.
